Aloft hotels are great options for parents traveling with kids. Kids between two to twelve receive special treats, including a kid-size air mattress and special bedding. The Aloft Charlotte Uptown at the EpiCentre (home to great shopping, dining, and nightlife) has recently renovated its public areas, making them even more vibrant and appealing. Guest rooms have nine-foot ceilings and extra-large windows. Choose a 285-square-foot king room or 315-square-foot two-queen option. Rooms feature plug & play, a one-stop connectivity station, allowing travelers to leave their chargers at home.

The hotel has 14 accessible rooms. Features include mobility accessible doors with at least 32” of clear door width, roll-in showers, portable communications kits containing visual alarms and notification devices and televisions with closed captioning.

The business center, fitness center and swimming pool are all accessible.

Located just a “lap” away from the NASCAR Hall of Fame, the Embassy Suites by Hilton Charlotte Uptown is the perfect base for speed fans. Suites have an open living area, kitchenette, complimentary Wi-Fi and a 42” HDTV. Enjoy a free made-to-order breakfast, drinks and light snacks at the complimentary Evening Reception, a Starbucks coffee shop, indoor pool and outdoor terrace.

Mobility accessible rooms feature doors that open automatically from the inside, grab bars in the bathroom, handheld and/or roll-in showers and emergency pull cords bedside the bed and in the bathroom.

Hearing accessibility features include strobe alarms, closed captioning on televisions or closed captioning decoders, digital alarm clock available with strobe light and TTY for guest use, visual alarm, and notification devices for the doorbell or door knock and incoming telephone calls.

4-Star Hotel

If you don’t mind staying a little way outside the center of Charlotte, the Great Wolf Lodge Resort in Concord is a fun option – especially if you are traveling with kids. This is more than just a hotel, it’s a hotel with a water park (or a water park with a hotel). Once you’ve dried off, take advantage of all the other activities on offer including character appearances, a PJ party and story time.

The hotel offers a wide range of accessible rooms, including the “KidKamp Suite,” which features a tent-themed sleeping area with bunk beds and a queen bed and accessible tub; a whirlpool suite with accessible shower and a two-bedroom Grizzly Bear Suite with an accessible shower and tub. 

The hotel public spaces and water park decks are accessible, according to an awesome detailed review with videos at Spin the Globe. The waterslides and elevated attractions are not accessible, though there are lifts for both the indoor and outdoor pools.  Wheelchairs are available for temporary use through guest services (first-come, first-serve basis) and can be used to enter the zero-entry wave pool, outdoor splash pool and splash pad.

Sign language interpretation services can be requested for shows and amenities. Email 10 days in advance. Guest will be contacted before their visit to verify arrangements.

Rooms at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Charlotte North boast a 42” flat panel TV, microwave, refrigerator, coffeemaker free Wi-Fi and an MP3 player with an alarm clock radio. The hotel has an accessible heated indoor pool and a complimentary fitness center. If you are traveling with kids, take advantage of the Holiday Inn policy that up to four kids aged 12 and under eat for free in any Holiday Inn on-site restaurant.
